Healing Starts With Faith: May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Week One Spotlight:
Let's Talk About Mental Health: Healing from Anxiety & Depression with Christ
Anxiety and depression are more common now more than ever and affect every age group, race, gender, and demographic.
If you or someone you know is struggling with anxiety or depression, know that you are not alone and that even in your scared, worrying, or sad times, Jesus is with you. The Bible tells us that God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We are also told to cast all of our anxiety on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).
During this month, let's…
Use God's word to guide us during anxious times and to remind us of the promises we can cling to for encouragement and peace.
Pray for one another, spend time in each other's companies, and listen to those who may be struggling or who have been through similar situations. Remember that a problem shared is a problem halved.
Seek outside resources if necessary. There is nothing wrong with seeking professional help if you or someone you know is struggling. God provides counselors, therapists, and medicines to use as tools to help you feel like yourself again.
Pray, meditate, worship, and be thankful. The more you drown out the noise and fill your mind with positive thoughts about Jesus, the stronger you will be when these situations happen.
Let's continue to spread awareness about mental health as Christians and support one another in our church family. If there is someone you know who is struggling with anxiety or depression, please check on them and let them know you care. Remind them that Jesus can heal their anxious hearts and never leave them to face their battles alone.
